English Premier League table 2022/23: Updated EPL standings and race for title, Champions League places, and relegation survival

Who can stop Arsenal? The Gunners made it five straight wins to start the season and sit alone atop the Premier League. Their toughest test yet will come on Sunday at Manchester United, who have won three in a row.

Powered by Erling Haaland, defending champs Manchester City are only two points behind Arsenal, and the Gunners’ archrivals Tottenham are further back after being held by West Ham in midweek.

No one expected to see Leeds United, Fulham, and Southampton in the Top 10 after five matchdays. But all three picked up more points in the midweek Matchday 5 slate to continue their positive run to start the season.

Chelsea’s struggles continued after a loss at Southampton left them in 8th place, eight points from the top. Only doing slightly better is Liverpool, who find themselves seven points out of first place after a last-gasp win over Newcastle.

Below is the full Premier League table followed by a snapshot of each race.

Premier League title race

Arsenal lead the league with a perfect record after five matches and can really send a statement of intent to the rest of the league with a sixth straight victory at Manchester United on Sunday.

Defending champions Manchester City are ready to take advantage of any Arsenal slip-up when they travel to Aston Villa on Saturday. Meanwhile, Tottenham earned a hard-fought point at West Ham in midweek and look forward to a home London derby match against Fulham next.

Champions League places & European places

While the usual Big Six names are not a surprise in the top half of the table (Chelsea sit in 10th), you wonder how long some of the new entries can hang around.

A European place would definitely make for a successful season for Brighton as Graham Potter continues to do impressive work on the south coast, while it’d be a dream for Leeds and Fulham to return to continental football.

Premier League relegation

Leicester City were competing for a European spot just a season ago and are now at the bottom of the league, with Aston Villa, Everton and Wolves among the surprising group of teams who find themselves just above the Foxes in the lower depths of the table.

Wolves projected to be a surefire mid-table side at worst in 2022/23, but their goalscoring issues are catching up to them as they sit in the bottom three coming off a 0-0 draw at strugglers Bournemouth, who sacked their manager Scott Parker after a 9-0 drubbing at the hands of Liverpool.

It doesn’t get any easier for Aston Villa, Everton and Leicester City, who next face Manchester City, Liverpool and fourth-place Brighton, respectively.
